Taking Care of The Skin You're In

This informationis to be used as a guideline for Post Procedure Care, not as a substitution for the doctor's instructions.

If you have had any of our Beautifying treatments or if you plan on having a treatment done and want to know some of the basic guidelines for post procedure treatment, simply click on the type of procedure in the left column and read the guidelines below.

Hair Reduction

  1. You will notice that the treated area has a slightly red appearance with raised areas around the hair follicles. This generally resolves in 24 hrs.
  1. People often notice that there is patchy hair re-growth. This is desirable and indicates a very successful treatment.
  1. There are no special instructions for hair reduction procedures.
  1. Normal skin care is all that is required.

Spider Vein Removal — Post-Care Instructions for Coolglide™ Treatments

  1. A mild to moderate sunburn-like sensation is anticipated. This generally resolves within a few hours but can last for up to 2 days.
  1. Bathe and shower as usual. The treated areas may be temperature sensitive but will not be harmed by bathing or showering.
  1. Avoid aggressive scrubbing of the treated area.
  1. If you notice any blistering, please be assured that this is very superficial. It will resolve quickly. Use a small amount of an antibiotic cream on the affected area for a couple of days and keep the area clean.
  1. Do not attempt to remove any crusted or scaly areas. They will flake away over a 7-10 day period. Infrequently this can take up to two weeks.
  1. Motrin or Aleve can help to reduce any swelling that may occur.
  1. The treated areas will become lighter and will gradually disappear. It is not uncommon for this to take several weeks. There will be some immediate swelling. This is a desirable effect. It means that the treatment was effective.

Thermage®

  1. There are no specific aftercare instructions following Thermage.
  1. Most people experience some redness that fades within a couple of hours and a small amount of facial swelling which subsides in a couple of days.
  1. Routine Skin care includes your normal cleansers and moisturizers along with sunscreen- SPF 30 or higher.

Tattoo Removal

  1. Most people experience redness and swelling over the entire surface of the tattoo. This resolves at a variable rate and can last several weeks.
  1. Some people experience blistering over the surface of the tattoo. Keep the area clean. Application of a light coating of an antibiotic ointment like Neosporin to the area twice a day for 2-3 days will help this resolve.
  1. It is very common for the treated area to become red and swollen. In almost all instances, this does not mean that the area is infected. Generally this can be treated with application of a small amount of Hydrocortisone Cream 1% once a day for two days.

Levulan™ Treatments

  1. Most people experience redness, swelling and some mild discomfort. This generally lasts for the first 48 hours and can be treated with ice packs and mild analgesics such as Advil or Tylenol.
  1. You should stay indoors for the first 24 hours and avoid direct sunlight for the first two weeks.
  1. Most people experience skin flaking and some areas of crusting that shed within the first 3-7 days. Moisturizers should be used during this time period.
  1. Make-up products can be applied once this crusting resolves, using mineral-based make-up products. Again, sunscreens are a must- SPF 30 or higher.

  1. In addition, you may have some mild swelling for 1-2 days.
  1. On rare occasions certain skin types are more reactive and both swelling and redness may last longer, but this is not concerning.

  1. You will experience swelling and redness over the treated areas. This effect is generally more pronounced in the lips. It can be treated by frequent applications of ice packs for the first 24 hours.

  1. The result can appear uneven. This generally corrects itself over the first couple of weeks. If these effects persist past this time, call the office for further instructions.
  1. Restylane® will last about 4 months in the lips and up to 5 months in the frown and smile lines.
  1. Any touch-ups need to be performed about two weeks after the initial treatment. Any remaining product will be saved for a touch-up, but it will only be stored for six months, after which it will be discarded.
